Overview

Tivoli Data Warehouse is an embedded technology that provides the backbone repository for all historical systems management data and the basis for Tivoli reporting solutions. While the amount of management data gathered continues to grow, the data is not being used effectively for IT business-relevant decisions. Tivoli Data Warehouse solves this problem by being the central data store where historical data from management applications is aggregated and correlated for use by:

  • High-value predicative management applications such as the new IBM Tivoli
  • Service Level Advisor Reporting and external vendor OLAP tools including offerings from the IBM DB2 family, Brio, Business Objects, Crystal, and Cognos
  • Many Tivoli products

This training class is provided in a classroom environment with multiple opportunities for hands-on lab practice. Most of the scenarios used in this class will be based on using IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse 1.2 with IBM Tivoli Monitoring 5.1.1 as a source application.

Pre-Requisites

You should be familiar with:

  • Maximo Asset Management Fundamentals, DB2 administration, and WebSphere administration.

Content

The following outline is a high-level description of the contents of this course. Each unit has an overview presentation, and most have a series of student exercises designed to reinforce the concepts presented. The course contains the following units:

Unit 1: Overview of Maximo Asset Manager 7.1 Implementation

Maximo Asset Manager 7.1 enables you to effectively manage enterprise asset operations and business processes to deliver efficient and effective services aligned to your business goals. This unit provides an overview of the Maximo Asset Management (MAM) product. An understanding of the product is useful as you prepare to deploy MAM 7.1.

Unit 2: Creating a New Maximo Environment

Creating multiple instance of an application that connect to separate databases is a common implementation task. In this unit you will create a target environment, for example, a test environment. Later in this course you will use Migration Manager to deploy your configuration changes from a source environment (Development) onto a target (Test) environment.

Unit 3: Security

The primary purpose of the Security module is to establish and maintain user groups and identify users within the system. You can identify which users have access and you can specify privileges to establish application and database securities

Unit 4: Database Configuration and Domains

In this unit, you will learn how to use the interface to configure and administer the underlying database using the Database Configuration application. You use this application to configure the database and to perform related functions. This unit also focuses on the various types of domains that you can create and modify.

Unit 5: Creating and Managing XML

In this unit, you will learn to create a new application. Using the Domains, Database Configuration, and Conditional Expression Manager applications, you will perform database and security configuration tasks for the new application.

Unit 6: Workflow

This unit describes the nature of a workflow solution. The process used to design, build, test, and deploy a new workflow for use with Tivoli Asset Management for IT is also discussed.

Unit 7: Migration Manager

This unit explains the benefits of the Migration Manager. It also lists the types of configuration changes, such as automation, reporting, and security, just to name a few, that you can migrate from one environment to another.

Unit 8: Configuring the Integration Framework

This unit describes configuration of the Integration Framework, which provides a solution for the synchronization and integration of data between applications.

Unit 9: BIRT Reporting

This unit introduces the BIRT reporting tool and describes how to install and configure BIRT to access Maximo Asset Manager 7.1.

Objectives

  • Describe the architecture of the Maximo Asset Management for 7.1
  • Create a new Maximo instance (a second environment)
  • Create and explore the Security application Perform database configuration tasks
  • Create and design a new application
  • Create workflows
  • Using Migration Manager, migrate configuration changes involving, Escalations, Integration Framework, and Conditional UI from source to target environment
  • Perform Integration Framework or MEA-related activities
  • Query and run reports; Install BIRT; and design a new report in BIRT and import it into the product.

This intermediate course is for system or network administrators who are responsible for maintaining large numbers of users, groups, and access to specific information resources.
